We were so saddened to hear about the passing of Yolanda Perez. We are so sorry we found out only last night and were not able to pay our respects to her at her service. My husband Amador and I had the honor and privilege of being Yolanda’s, known to her teammates as (Yoly) Track and Field Coach at Union Hill High School from 1981 to 1984. She was a phenomenal athlete and icon to the sport. She ran cross country, indoor and outdoor seasons for four consecutive years. Her events in Track & Field included the 100-meter dash, 100-meter low hurdles, 200-meter dash, 400 intermediate hurdles and high jump. Her forte was in the 100-meter dash and the 100-meter low hurdles. We were always at awe watching her compete with so much grace, grit and determination and the majority of the times came in first in all events. She was All County in events many times through her four years on the team. Yolanda was not only an individual competitor but also a team player as well. She helped bring her teammates to win numerous County Championships. She was also placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash in the State Championship.
Yolanda was also such a kind and caring woman. We remember so vividly at track practice when she would look after her two younger siblings Issac & David. We will always hold Yolanda’s spirit and infectious smile in our hearts. May she rest in eternal peace.
Sincerely,
Anna & Amador Rodriguez

I just heard about Yolanda's passing. I am sad that I did not have the opportunity to offer my heartfelt condolences to her family in-person. I had the privilege of being one of Yolanda's high school coaches. To say that Yolanda was a gifted athlete would be an understatement. Yolanda was an All-County and All-State athlete who was also recognized as a Hudson County Track & Field Hall of Fame athlete. Yolanda was fiercely competitive and always put in the work to be as successful as she was every time she entered a competition. It was not unusual for her to win most if not all events she entered. She excelled as a sprinter, high jumper, hurdler, and all-around athlete. Yolanda won many county and state titles during her time at Union Hill High School, and she was a big part of a successful team that helped Union Hill be recognized as a girls track power in Hudson County. Watching Yolanda and her teammates succeed is without question one of the highlights of my life. I will always be proud of all the athletes I've coached over the years, but it is especially a blessing when the work they put in is rewarded by the type of success Yolanda had in her athletic career. God Bless and keep You in His Loving Hands Yolanda until we meet again. (Mike McGinley)

The profound influence we can have on another person's life often remains unknown to us. During my childhood, I was fortunate to observe Yolanda's extraordinary athletic abilities on the running track. Her remarkable performance became the spark that ignited my own passion for running - a passion I have since passed down to my children. I fondly remember Yolanda as a fierce, uncompromising, and incredibly cool woman. May she rest in power and continue to inspire.

I met Yolanda Christmas eve at St Anthony's church it was the night mass in 2016. I was going through a rough patch, right before mass began she came to me and said some beautiful things and told me not to lose hope to keep praying and not to lose faith. I felt as she was sent to me by God. I listened to every word and thanked her, we wished each other well. I was very touched that night and kept praying like she said to. Now, I pray that she's resting in peace in our Father's arms.

I met Yolanda when her two youngest brothers stepped into my life. My beloved David and Issac. Yolanda had an infectious laughter and she loved her siblings so much. She was a tough girl in a house with 3 brothers, but her heart was soft. I know you'll be safe in heaven with them and your son.
Do not stand at my grave and weep. I'm not there I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond Glitz of snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle Autumn's rain. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there I did not die. May we meet again.
