Obituary of Russell S Hannigan

Russell S. Hannigan was born in Jersey City, New Jersey  on  April 5,1957 to his beloved parents Gladys and Robert Hannigan. Russell enjoyed a loving partnership with Amy Carroll D’Erchia for over 30 years, and was brother to Richard Hannigan and the late Robert Hannigan. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Jennifer and Richard, and many cousins. Russell cherished his role as uncle and friend throughout his life.

Russell remained a proud Jersey City, lifelong resident. Graduate of St Peter's Preparatory School, Russell pursued his love of learning and higher education at the University of Arizona and New Jersey City University studying philosophy, psychology, and political science. 

Russell committed his professional career to the City of Jersey City, employed as a licensed Master Plumber and Plumbing Inspector for many years.

Demonstrating an engaged, curious, and active mind, Russell’s interests included the happiness and welfare of friends and family, his love for writing especially short stories, Jersey City nostalgia, Facebook, reading books, M.C. Escher art, music, nature, his Irish heritage, and holiday celebrations. He enjoyed vacations, cruises,  and traveling to the American West, Canada, and especially Sedona, Arizona.  He also enjoyed Cape Cod and Vermont.

Russell’s story-telling skills were remarkable and he would happily discuss any and every topic.

Sadly, Russell died on November 22, 2023 after several difficult months of illness. 

Russell is  loved and missed.

Friends and family are invited to wake services for Russell on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 3 to 8 pm at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home, North Bergen, New Jersey
