On Saturday, November 4th, 2017, we lost a great man, but gained a guardian angel. Our father was always there for us in both body and spirit, showing us by his living example what it was like to be a father and a husband. He made sure that his children knew what it was like to be humble, strong, and independent individuals. Our father loved us all more than he loved himself. When it became too hard for him to live on, the pain that was the greatest for him was never his own, but rather the pain that he saw in us. At tragic times like these, so many are worried about all the things left unsaid because they were not brave enough to say them and they ran out of time. We were lucky to have a father who was always honest and said what needed to be said. There are no regrets about that thanks to his openness, his willingness, his understanding, and his love. The world is filled with children who never heard their father say “I love you” who wonder throughout their lives whether they were loved. Our father spared us from this wound that many children walk around with. That is the greatest gift that a father can give to his children. We lost not only a great man, but an uplifting spirit that can never be replaced. We will always love you Papi, and we will always miss you.
