Obituary of Guilbert E Merchan
Guilbert E. Merchan resident of Jersey City, New Jersey and originally from Manabi, Ecuador.
Guilbert Merchan sadly passed away on October 23, 2023 at Hackensack University Medical Center, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Hilda, and his three children Cindy, Sharon and Marcos Merchan. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Evan, Justin, Bryan, Liam, Deon and Caliya.
Guilbert worked at New Jersey City University for 20 years until he retired in 2016. During his time at NJCU, he enjoyed doing his delivery rounds because it gave him the opportunity to meet new people and create new friendships. He loved to put a smile on everyone’s face with his quick wit and sense of humor. In his personal time, he loved to work with his hands and was always ready to fix anything that needed fixing. Some of his favorite pastimes included spending time with his grandkids, watching movies, soccer games and boxing. He would also dedicate his time to repairing and driving around his old burgundy station wagon and yellow pickup truck, which he referred to as his “babies”. Guilbert will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to know him.
His family will receive relatives and friends for visitation at the funeral home Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A Roman Catholic Funeral Mass will be offered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Jersey City, New Jersey Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City, New Jersey.
