Obituary of Yluminada Altagracia Gomez

Yluminada Altagracia Gomez, age 60, went peacefully to be with her Lord, after a long battle with cancer, on Monday, January 10th, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home in Union City. From her birth in Santa Rosa, Moca, D.R., on November 29th, 1961 to her death on Monday, she nourished the people around her with love, faith, and her delicious Dominican comida. She was born in “El Campo” to Mateo Gomez and Ana Rojas and was one of 10 living children. She came to the United States in 1995 with her sons and made an incredible life for all of them. She worked tirelessly from her arrival to this country, until her body was no longer capable.  She was extremely proud of seeing her son Danny graduate from college, of Anthony becoming a successful entrepreneur and business owner, and mostly, of herself becoming a US citizen.
Yluminada truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: Traveling to the South to visit Samantha and her grandchildren, spending time with Danny and watching his family grow, flying to Chicago to see all of Anthony’s accomplishments, it all made her so proud. She never forgot a birthday and always invited you over for your favorite meal. Her favorite time of year was Christmas. As soon as November 1st arrived her Christmas tree came out. She loved Christmas lights, all the decorations she could find and music, but mostly, she loved hosting Christmas Eve dinner. She loved cooking and being surrounded by her family.
Left to honor and remember her love is Lume’s husband of 39 years, Rafael Guzman, her sons, Danny and Anthony, and her 6 grandchildren, Elijah, Zion, Josiah, Genesis, Ronan and Ciarán; as well as her mother, all of her sisters, brothers and the many nieces and nephews that she adored.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY and NJ, as well as the staff at Hackensack Hospital in NJ. They were an integral part in giving us 7 more beautiful years with Yluminada.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Yluminada touched are invited to the Jorge River Funeral Home in North Bergen, NJ, Thursday January 13th, 2022 from 4pm – 8pm. Father Fernando of SS Joseph & Michael Church in Union City, where she was a devoted parishioner, will be saying a prayer in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, we are asking that a donation be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in her name. This was a very special charity to Yluminada and we know how much this would truly mean to her.

“God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So He put His arms around you
and whispered "Come to Me."
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating,
Your hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.”
