Obituary of Alejandrina Sabina Sarmiento

Alejandrina Sarmiento (96) passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on December 24, 2021. Born on February 9, 1925 in the city of Huancayo, one of Peru’s most populated cities, where she lived until 2008 before residing with her family in New Jersey.

Alejandrina is preceded in death by her husband Luis and survived by her five children Manuel, Antonio, Elena, Alfredo, and Gladys, 8 grandchildren Mariela, Noelia, Silvia, Alejandra, Rolando, Gustavo, Diana, and Luis, and 7 great-grandchildren Manuel, Kaleb, Nicolas, Allyson, Pedro, Silvia, and Abigail.

Raising five children is no easy task and Alejandrina could be found on most days cooking for her family, cleaning the house, and teaching valuable life lessons to her children.  Mama Licha, as she was commonly referred, loved music and danced well into her 90s at family parties. All told, she lived a modest life wholly devoted to God and his teachings. She cherished her family and demonstrated the type of love the cannot easily be replicated. We miss her dearly.

Her family will receive relatives and friends for visitation at the funeral home Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will take place in Peru.
