Obituary of Pilar Suarez

Pilar Suarez, known to her family and friends as Pili, age 79, of Union City, New Jersey passed away peacefully on December 8th surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. Pilar was born on January 6th , 1941 in Madrid, Spain. She met her husband, Enrique Suarez, a musician from Cuba who was touring in Spain, where they fell in love and were married for 29 years until his death in 1994. She was a devoted mother, a doting grandmother and is survived by her son, Mario E. Suarez; daughter, Ines, son in law, Walter Schlosky and her three grandchildren: Henry, Nicholas and Helen, who were her pride and joy. Pilar was profoundly proud of her Spanish heritage and cherished her frequent trips to Spain visiting her family and rediscovering her birthland. She had a strong affinity for the arts, in particular theater and music and loved going into Manhattan with friends to experience the splendor of Broadway and the energy of The City. Pilar was a devout Catholic who was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Union City, NJ and participated in many church and local Cuban and Spanish heritage festivals. A perfect night for Pilar would consist of a good glass of Spanish red wine, some tapas and a Flamenco show. Most notably, Pilar was a strong and independent woman who was a breast cancer survivor and fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer’s.
