Obituary of Modesta Fontan

Modesta “Mima” Fontan, 88, of Union City, NJ, passed away on November 6, 2018 in Miami, FL.

Visitation will be held at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home on Friday, November 16th from 3pm to 10pm. Funeral service will be held at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home on Saturday, November 17th. Burial will follow at Weehawken Cemetery in North Bergen. 

Modesta was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba to Teresa Berrios and Tiburcio Torres on February 24, 1930. She and her husband, Benito Fontan, owned Fontan Restaurant on 39th Street and Bergenline Avenue for many years. 

Modesta is survived by her brother, Casimiro Torres of Cuba, her children Aida Fontan, Jose Fontan, Maria Pierlas, and Modesta Ruiz, her 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
