In Loving Memory of Amalia James Christie

December 27, 1934 – August 29, 2026

It is with deep sorrow, yet with faith in the promise of eternal life, that we announce the passing of our

beloved Amalia James Christie on August 29, 2026, at the age of 91. She was a devoted wife, mother,

grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of faith whose life was marked by strength, compassion, and

an enduring love for her family.

Amalia was born on December 27, 1934, in Brookhill, a suburb of Anand, Gujarat, India, to Yuna Bhai

Christian and Martha Ben Christian. The eldest of ten siblings, she was known from an early age for her

determination, strong work ethic, and caring nature.

After completing her nursing education in Borsad, Amalia began a career devoted to caring for others,

working at Bharuch Mission Hospital and later at hospitals in Ahmedabad. Her work in nursing and

midwifery reflected the nurturing spirit she carried throughout her life.

In 1955, Amalia married James Samuel Christie. Together, they raised their six children: Robin, Wallace,

Jovial, Ellinore, Roozvelt, and Franklin. Amalia worked tirelessly while raising her family, providing them with

love, guidance, and a strong foundation of faith and perseverance.

In her later years, Amalia came to the United States, which became her home for nearly four decades. She

remained deeply connected to her family and community and was wonderfully social. She seemed to know

someone everywhere she went and loved being around people, sharing conversation, and forming

friendships.

Amalia had a special love for flowers and gardening and a natural gift for helping plants flourish. She was

also an exceptionally talented seamstress. Her sewing became well known throughout her community, with

many people coming to her over the years for sewing and alterations, particularly for Indian clothing. It was

another way she shared her talents and connected with those around her.

Above all, family was at the center of Amalia's life. She was a constant presence in the lives of her children,

grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, helping to raise, nurture, guide, and care for generations of her

family. Countless family and childhood memories have her woven into them, and the love she gave will

continue to be felt for generations.

Amalia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Samuel Christie; her son, Wallace Christie;

and her grandson, Ritchie Christie.

She leaves behind a loving family:

Children: Robin (Namrata), the late Wallace (Meena), Jovial (Jyostana), Ellinore (Stiff), Roozvelt (Rita), and

Franklin.

Grandchildren: Sweety, Marlina (Anirudh), Clarence (Sharon), Norveena (Hriday), Kervina (Rex), Brinkal,

Bruny (Afeez), the late Ritchie, and Samuel.

Great-grandchildren: Ananya, Ameiah, Neriah, Beryle, Caius, and Davin.

She is also survived by her siblings, extended family, and many dear friends.

Through every season of her life, Amalia carried herself with remarkable strength and grace. Her life was a

testimony to love, sacrifice, perseverance, faith, and devotion to family.

Though we mourn her earthly departure, we take comfort in the Christian hope that death is not the end,

but a passage into eternal life with our Lord. We give thanks to God for the gift of Amalia's life, for the love

she shared so freely, and for the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.

 Visitation will be offered on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 10 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Weehawken Cemetery, North Bergen, New Jersey.
