It is with profound sadness and deep love that we celebrate the life of Asuncion Mercado, a truly extraordinary woman whose strength, resilience, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family touched the lives of everyone who knew her.

Asuncion lived a long and remarkable life, reaching 100+ years of age, a century marked by both great joys and significant challenges. Through it all, she carried herself with grace, dignity, and an inner strength that inspired everyone around her. She faced life's hardships with courage and determination, emerging from each challenge with the same beautiful spirit that made her so special. She was a beacon of strength for her family, a source of wisdom and comfort, and a shining example of perseverance.

Born as the oldest of eight brothers and sisters, Asuncion naturally stepped into a role of love, guidance, and responsibility that she carried throughout her life. She is lovingly survived by her sisters, Enes, Nativa, and Felipa, and her brother, Teodoro, who shared with her a lifetime of memories, laughter, and family bonds.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tomas Mercado, and her cherished son, Tomas Mercado Jr., lovingly known as Tommy. Though she endured the heartbreak of losing both her husband and son, she continued forward with remarkable strength, never allowing life's hardships to diminish her love for others or her appreciation for the blessings she still had.

Family was the center of Asuncion's world. As she grew older, her 24 nieces and nephews became like her own children, and she loved each of them deeply. Her affection extended to her many grandnieces and grandnephews, who brought her endless joy and pride. She was also blessed by the loving companionship and care of Carmen, her devoted homemaker, and Carmensita, who became a daughter to her in every way but blood. Their bond was built on love, trust, and family, proving that family is not only defined by relation, but by the love we share.

Asuncion had a remarkable gift: everyone who met her became family. Her warmth, generosity, and genuine interest in others drew people to her. Whether related by blood or simply fortunate enough to cross her path, people felt welcomed, loved, and cared for in her presence. She leaves behind countless relatives, friends, neighbors, and loved ones whose lives were enriched by knowing her.

She enjoyed many passions throughout her life. She loved sewing, creating beautiful pieces for herself and for others. But her greatest joy was cooking. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and her famous "comilatas" brought together family and friends from near and far. She took great pride in making sure everyone attended, and no one ever left her table hungry. Through her meals, she created far more than food—she created memories, traditions, laughter, and togetherness.

Asuncion also loved to travel, embracing opportunities to see new places and experience the world around her. Every trip became another cherished story, another adventure, and another memory to share with those she loved.

The countless wonderful moments she created throughout her life are treasures that her family and friends will hold close forever. Her love, wisdom, humor, and strength will continue to live on in the stories we tell, the traditions we carry forward, and the lessons she taught us simply by the way she lived her life.

One of her favorite sayings was:

"Cuerpo malo mal agradecida, llena de malas mañas que no paga lo que debe."

Those who knew her can almost hear her voice saying it now, bringing a smile through tears and reminding us of the unique personality, humor, and wisdom that made her so unforgettable.

Today, while our hearts are heavy with loss, they are equally filled with gratitude. We are grateful for the many years we were blessed to have Asuncion with us, for the love she gave so freely, and for the example she set for all who knew her. Her life was one of strength, sacrifice, resilience, generosity, and unconditional love.

Though she has left this earthly world, her spirit remains alive in the hearts of her family and friends. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Tomas, and her beloved son, Tommy, whom she missed so dearly.

Asuncion Mercado will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the lives she touched, and the love she gave so abundantly. May she rest in eternal peace.

Con profunda tristeza, pero también con inmenso amor y gratitud, celebramos la vida de Asuncion Mercado, una mujer verdaderamente extraordinaria cuya fortaleza, resiliencia, bondad y dedicación inquebrantable a su familia tocaron las vidas de todos los que tuvieron el privilegio de conocerla.

Asuncion vivió una vida larga y admirable, marcada tanto por grandes alegrías como por importantes desafíos. Más de 100 años, un siglo maravilloso. A lo largo de todo su camino, se condujo con gracia, dignidad y una fuerza interior que inspiró a quienes la rodeaban. Enfrentó las dificultades de la vida con valentía y determinación, superando cada obstáculo con el mismo espíritu hermoso que la hizo tan especial. Fue un ejemplo de fortaleza para su familia, una fuente de sabiduría y consuelo, y un verdadero modelo de perseverancia.

Como la mayor de ocho hermanos, Asuncion asumió desde temprana edad un papel de amor, guía y responsabilidad que mantuvo durante toda su vida. Le sobreviven con amor sus hermanas Enes, Nativa y Felipa, y su hermano Teodoro, con quienes compartió toda una vida de recuerdos, risas y lazos familiares.

Fue precedida en la muerte por su amado esposo, Tomas Mercado, y por su querido hijo, Tomas Mercado Jr., cariñosamente conocido como Tommy. Aunque sufrió el inmenso dolor de perder a su esposo y a su hijo, continuó adelante con una fortaleza admirable, sin permitir que las dificultades de la vida disminuyeran su amor por los demás ni su agradecimiento por las bendiciones que aún tenía.

La familia era el centro de la vida de Asuncion. Con el paso de los años, sus 24 sobrinos y sobrinas llegaron a ser como sus propios hijos, y los amó profundamente a cada uno de ellos. Ese amor también se extendió a sus numerosos sobrinos nietos y sobrinas nietas, quienes llenaron su vida de orgullo y alegría. También fue bendecida con la compañía y el cariño de Carmen, su dedicada cuidadora, y de Carmensita, quien fue una hija para ella en todos los sentidos, excepto por la sangre. Su relación fue un hermoso ejemplo de que la familia no siempre se define por los lazos biológicos, sino por el amor que compartimos.

Asuncion tenía un don especial: toda persona que la conocía se convertía en familia. Su calidez, generosidad y sincero interés por los demás hacían que todos se sintieran bienvenidos y queridos. Ya fueran familiares, amigos, vecinos o simplemente personas que tuvieron la fortuna de cruzarse en su camino, todos encontraban en ella un corazón abierto y un amor genuino.

A lo largo de su vida disfrutó de muchas pasiones. Le encantaba coser, creando prendas y detalles tanto para ella como para quienes amaba. Sin embargo, su verdadera pasión era la cocina. Su cocina era el corazón de su hogar, y sus famosas "comilatas" reunían a familiares y amigos de todas partes. Ella se aseguraba de que todos asistieran y de que nadie se marchara con hambre. A través de sus comidas creó mucho más que platos deliciosos; creó recuerdos, tradiciones, risas y momentos de unión que permanecerán para siempre en nuestros corazones.

Asuncion también amaba viajar. Disfrutaba conocer nuevos lugares, vivir nuevas experiencias y crear historias que luego compartía con quienes quería. Cada viaje se convirtió en un recuerdo especial que hoy forma parte de su hermoso legado.

Los innumerables momentos maravillosos que compartió con su familia y amigos son tesoros que conservaremos para siempre. Su amor, su sabiduría, su sentido del humor y su fortaleza seguirán viviendo en las historias que contamos, en las tradiciones que mantenemos y en las enseñanzas que nos dejó con su ejemplo de vida.

Quienes la conocieron pueden escucharla decir esas palabras incluso hoy, arrancando una sonrisa entre lágrimas y recordándonos el carácter, la sabiduría y el sentido del humor que la hicieron inolvidable.

Hoy nuestros corazones están llenos de tristeza por su partida, pero también de profunda gratitud. Agradecemos los muchos años que Dios nos permitió compartir con Asuncion, el amor que nos brindó sin condiciones y el ejemplo que dejó para todos nosotros. Aunque ya no está físicamente con nosotros, su espíritu vive en cada uno de los corazones que tocó. Encontramos consuelo al saber que ahora se ha reunido con su amado esposo, Tomas, y con su querido hijo, Tommy, a quienes extrañó profundamente durante tantos años.

Asuncion Mercado será profundamente extrañada, eternamente amada y siempre recordada. Su legado vive en la familia que tanto amó, en las vidas que tocó y en el amor que compartió con tanta generosidad. Que descanse en la paz eterna.
