Jose Guillermo Gonzalez Obituary
Jose Guillermo Gonzalez, 97, of Jersey City, completed his long and extraordinary journey surrounded by the family who was the heartbeat of his life. Born in El Salvador, he carried the strength, discipline, and quiet pride of his homeland as he made his way through the world. In 1969, he migrated from Honduras to the United States, bringing with him determination,
courage, and a steadfast belief in building a better future. One of Jose’s earliest jobs was in a printing shop, a place filled with ink, paper, and possibility. It was there that he developed a deep and enduring love for reading—a love that stayed with him
for the rest of his life. He became a faithful subscriber to Reader’s Digest and eagerly devoured any reading material he could get his hands on. Books and magazines were his quiet companions, feeding a mind that was always curious, always learning.
Jose’s story began in motion—behind the wheel of a motorcar ambulance, where he served with steady hands and a calm presence. It was there, in the midst of duty and purpose, that he met the woman who would become his partner for 70 years, Blanca Lastenia. Their love was the foundation on which he built the rest of his life. A man of vision and grit, Jose became a businessman, founding a bus company that continues to operate to this day—a living testament to his drive, his intelligence, and his belief in building
something that would last. Later, in the United States, he mastered yet another craft, becoming a ship mechanic, tending to the engines that carried vessels across the world. A true jack‑of‑all‑trades, he excelled at everything he put his hands to. But his greatest devotion was always to his family. His beloved wife Blanca Lastenia, his son Jose Guillermo II, daughter-in-law Samima, his daughters Evelyn and Marlyn, his nephew Rene, whom he loved as one of his children, granddaughters Yessenia, Erika, and Sophia, and his grandsons Ino Alonzo, Christian, Brennan and Bryson, were the center of his universe. His love extended into the next generation as well, embracing his great‑granddaughters Faith, Nattalie, and Daniella, and his great‑grandson William, each of whom brought him joy.
Jose was a man of law and order—not through force, but through example. He spoke sparingly, but when he did, his words carried the weight of truth. In those few, measured sentences, you could find guidance, principle, and the kind of wisdom that shapes a family for generations. He was strong yet gentle, determined yet tender. His humor was subtle but unforgettable, a quiet spark that warmed every room he entered. Loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him, he leaves behind a legacy of integrity, devotion, and quiet grace.
His family will forever carry his lessons, his laughter, and his love—an inheritance more enduring than anything he could have built with his hands.
