Manuel Alfredo Valcarcel, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pillar of his community, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in Teaneck, New Jersey, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73 years old.

Born on October 25, 1951, in Holguín, Cuba, Manuel displayed extraordinary courage and determination from a young age. In pursuit of freedom and a better life, he bravely defected from Cuba by swimming the Guantánamo channel. Settling in New Jersey, he built a new life grounded in hope, faith, and hard work.

It was in New Jersey that he met the love of his life, Isabel, with whom he shared a marriage full of devotion and joy. Together, they raised five children — Manuel, Elvis, Vanessa, Isabel, and Gabriel — and were later blessed with eleven cherished grandchildren: Manny Russell, Arya, Brooklyn, Logan, Brandon, Valeria, Nikolaj, Sebastijan, Isabella, Alex, and Becky.

Manuel dedicated his professional life to the automotive industry, working tirelessly as a mechanic until he fulfilled his dream of opening his own successful mechanic shop. Yet, his proudest achievement was always his family. He was a man who placed loved ones at the heart of everything he did.

Deeply rooted in his Christian faith, Manuel was also one of the founders of the Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church in Union City, NJ. His kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his faith and community will leave a lasting legacy.

He is survived by his loving wife Isabel, his children Manuel, Elvis, Vanessa, Isabel, and Gabriel, and his treasured grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Manuel’s life at a visitation service on Thursday, July 10, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum on Friday, July 11, at 10:00 AM.

Nacido el 25 de octubre de 1951 en Holguín, Cuba, Manuel demostró un valor y determinación extraordinarios desde muy joven. En busca de libertad y una vida mejor, tuvo el coraje de escapar de Cuba nadando por el canal de Guantánamo. Al establecerse en Nueva Jersey, construyó una nueva vida basada en la esperanza, la fe y el trabajo arduo.

Fue en Nueva Jersey donde conoció al amor de su vida, Isabel, con quien compartió un matrimonio lleno de devoción y alegría. Juntos formaron una hermosa familia con cinco hijos — Manuel, Elvis, Vanessa, Isabel y Gabriel — y fueron bendecidos con once queridos nietos: Manny Russell, Arya, Brooklyn, Logan, Brandon, Valeria, Nikolaj, Sebastijan, Isabella, Alex y Becky.

Manuel dedicó su vida profesional a la industria automotriz, trabajando incansablemente como mecánico hasta cumplir su sueño de abrir su propio y exitoso taller mecánico. Sin embargo, su mayor orgullo siempre fue su familia. Fue un hombre que puso a sus seres queridos en el centro de todo lo que hacía.

Profundamente arraigado en su fe cristiana, Manuel también fue uno de los fundadores de la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día Maranatha en Union City, Nueva Jersey. Su bondad, liderazgo y compromiso inquebrantable con su fe y su comunidad dejarán un legado duradero.

Le sobreviven su amada esposa Isabel, sus hijos Manuel, Elvis, Vanessa, Isabel y Gabriel, y sus adorados nietos.

Familiares y amigos están invitados a celebrar la vida de Manuel en el velorio que se llevará a cabo el jueves 10 de julio de 4:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. en la funeraria Jorge Rivera. El entierro tendrá lugar el viernes 11 de julio a las 10:00 a.m. en el mausoleo de Fairview.
