In Loving Memory of Susie S. Fontanilla

April 5, 1940 – May 17, 2025

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we share the passing of Susie S. Fontanilla on May 17, 2025, at the age of 85. She was so much to so many—an endlessly loving wife, a devoted mother, a guiding sister, a generous aunt, and a true friend whose kindness left a mark on everyone she met.

Born in Alcala, Pangasinan, Philippines, on April 5, 1940 to Luis Garcia and Esperanza Soriano, Susie eventually made Union City, New Jersey her home. But no matter where she was, Susie carried with her the warmth and grace that defined her. She lived with quiet strength,

always thinking of others, and always offering a listening ear, a home-cooked meal, or a gentle word when it was needed most.

She leaves behind the love of her life, Rodrigo “Rudy” Fontanilla, her husband of 49 wonderful years; her son Jim and daughter-in-law, Silvia, who were the pride and joy of her life; her niece, Nerissa Javier, and her family—Wilfredo, Bryant, Jessica, Kimberly, and

Adrian—whom she loved like her own. She is also remembered by her dear sisters: Dr. Melodina “Ludy” Cunanan, Melinda “Medy” Bacena, and Nora “Bebot” DeCastro. Her sister, Remigia “Remy” Pinto, preceded her in eternal rest. Susie’s spirit lives on in the memories she helped create, and the way her presence made a room feel like home. Her love was steady, her heart unshakable.

On Thursday, May 29th, 2025, visitation will be held from 4PM to 8PM at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home in North Bergen, New Jersey. On Friday, May 30th, 2025, a mass will follow at 10AM at St. Joseph and Michael’s Church in Union City, NJ. Susie will be laid to rest at

Fairview Cemetery in Fairview, New Jersey.

She may no longer be with us in body, but her love—deep and enduring—will remain always.
