Obituary of Rafaela Ramos

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Rafaela Juana De Dios Ramos, lovingly known as "Elita," at the age of 88. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family at Palisades General Hospital in North Bergen, NJ.

A devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elita was the heart of her family and a source of love and strength for all who knew her. Her kindhearted spirit, warm smile, and sharp sense of humor carried her through life’s challenges and brought joy to everyone around her. Her presence could light up any room.

Elita is survived by her husband of 63 years, Pedro Ramos, and their two children: Ivette Gutierrez (married to Roberto Gutierrez, and ex-son-in-law Gerardo Alfaro) and Carlos Ramos (married to Doris Ramos). She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Giselle Alfaro-Muñoz, Jeanette Alfaro-Hernandez, Daniel Gutierrez, Gabriel Gutierrez, Amanda Ramos, Nicholas Ramos, Alexander Gutierrez, and Andrew Ramos. Elita’s legacy extends to her cherished great-grandchildren: Isabella Muñoz, Jasmine Muñoz, and Camilo Muñoz.

She is also survived by her brother, George Grosso; her sister-in-law, Anne Grosso; and her nieces: Linda Grosso-Erfle, Suzanne Grosso, and Carrie Grosso.

Born in Cuba, Elita earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and began her professional career as an International Operator. In 1980, she and Pedro courageously emigrated to the United States, where they built a life in New Jersey. One of Elita’s lifelong dreams was to work in New York City—a dream she realized through positions with various companies, including her final role at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). She was especially proud of her time working in the World Trade Center.

Elita loved the vibrancy of city life, whether strolling along Bergenline Avenue or exploring the streets of Manhattan. Her passion for family, faith, and community was a cornerstone of her life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Saint Joseph and Saint Michael Church (1314 Central Ave, Union City, NJ 07087) at 10:00  AM, where she was a devoted parishioner for over 40 years. Following the Mass, Elita will be laid to rest at the Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum (340 Ridge Road, North Arlington, NJ).

Elita will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who loved her.
